Rapid NAC deployment

How to Deploy Network Access Control Quickly Without 802.1X

Bring access control to your existing network with fewer rollout dependencies. Discover devices, recognize managed endpoints and prove the protection before you expand.

Start with your network, your security tools and your required outcomes.

01Connect an appliance or VM
02Reuse AD + XDR evidence
03Validate + enable protection

What is the fastest NAC solution to deploy?

EasyNAC can shorten deployment by avoiding a new switch 802.1X authentication rollout and endpoint authentication-profile deployment for its agentless LAN approach. The advantage is strongest when you need access control on an existing mixed-device network and already have useful AD, XDR or management information.

Instead of preparing every participating access port and endpoint for authentication, start with an appliance or VM, confirm coverage and reuse supported management evidence. Default Auto Trust already includes AD joined machine and XDR managed machine checks; connect the relevant integrations and validate the result.

No single product is fastest in every environment. Existing certificate, RADIUS and device-management infrastructure can make an 802.1X rollout easier. Compare the same required access and health outcomes, including exceptions and recovery, rather than comparing installation time alone.

Can I deploy NAC without 802.1X?

Yes. EasyNAC uses ARP-based access enforcement as an alternative to introducing switch 802.1X authentication on suitable IPv4 networks. Devices do not need a new 802.1X authentication profile for this approach. Existing 802.1X controls can coexist with EasyNAC when their interaction is planned and tested.

The major work is straightforward: deploy the appliance or VM, set its IP, confirm the protected networks, connect the supported trust and health information, then test and enable protection. Start with visibility before expanding enforcement.

Can NAC work with existing switches?

EasyNAC’s agentless LAN approach supports managed and unmanaged switches without requiring switch-specific 802.1X integration. The appliance or an Enforcer Sensor must have suitable Layer-2 visibility and connectivity to each protected subnet.

  • One office: use a suitable access-port connection, or an 802.1Q trunk for multiple VLANs. A new or adjusted trunk may still require switch configuration.
  • Branches: suitable remotely deployed software Enforcer Sensors extend local visibility and enforcement under an EasyNAC appliance.
  • Regions: deploy head-office EasyNAC first, then use optional Central Visibility Manager (CVM) to coordinate configuration across regional appliances.

Check wireless client isolation, routed boundaries and any network protections that affect ARP traffic. A device appearing in an inventory is not proof that every traffic path can be restricted. Validate the actual access paths in your pilot.

Can NAC work without endpoint agents?

Yes. EasyNAC discovers devices without a dedicated NAC agent and can use supported AD, XDR and management integrations for trust and compliance information. Printers, IoT and other devices can be discovered without installing endpoint software.

Agentless NAC does not mean that no software exists on a managed endpoint. Your XDR or management platform may already use an agent. A management record alone does not prove that a device is healthy: select and validate the supported status checks your access policy requires.

Use the optional EasyNAC endpoint agent when your requirements call for deeper local checks or agent-based remediation. Remote-access VPN protection has its own deployment and agent requirements; it is separate from this LAN workflow.

How long does EasyNAC take to deploy?

About 1 week

Planning estimate for a straightforward small-office rollout with prerequisites ready.

Up to about 8 weeks

Planning estimate for a broader enterprise rollout; complex projects can take longer.

These are experience-based estimates supplied by InfoExpress, not measured project averages, an independent benchmark or a delivery guarantee. They are not fixed pilot durations. Device count alone does not determine the schedule.

For a pilot, agree the scope and record actual elapsed time, administrator effort, integration setup and test results. For production, add the remaining subnets and sites, exceptions, approval windows, availability requirements and operational handover. A successful pilot is the basis for a credible production plan.

Is EasyNAC secure without 802.1X?

Yes. EasyNAC combines device visibility, access-policy enforcement and supported security checks without requiring a switch 802.1X rollout. Its agentless LAN approach uses ARP-based enforcement alongside information from your existing identity and security tools.

  • Recognize trusted devices. Default Auto Trust uses supported AD and XDR management evidence to help authorize eligible devices automatically.
  • Detect suspicious identity changes. Device fingerprinting helps detect MAC-spoofing attempts by checking more than a MAC address alone.
  • Respond after a device connects. Built-in deception and supported security alerts can trigger access restrictions under your configured policies.

EasyNAC supports endpoints running IPv4/IPv6 dual stack. Start with a representative pilot to demonstrate trusted-device access, unknown-device restriction and recovery on your network.
